Art imitating Life.

Art imitating Life.

Oscar Wilde said “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life”.  This may be true for some, but it’s not my story.

My own art is, perhaps, more like Technical Drawings.  I am absorbed by detail and accuracy, scale and form.  One of the things I find most difficult to produce is abstract art.  My brain isn’t wired up that way.  I’m all at sea given a blank canvas, some paint and the instruction to “just paint what I feel”.

Given my career in IT, I probably shouldn’t be surprised.  Much of my life was spent designing systems solutions for work processes.  I prided myself in observing, asking about and contextualising processes before thinking about prototyping designs. All in close partnership with those who were going to be on the receiving end of my designs, having to live and work with them day-in, day-out.  I miss that creative system building.

Accuracy went hand in hand with aesthetics and this overlaps with how I draw and paint.
